About Pancreatic Cancer Pancreatic Cancer is a vicious killer. It is the fourth leading cause of cancer death, claiming a higher percentage of lives than any other form of cancer. Pancreatic cancer has the worst five-year survival rate of any cancer, partly because the cancer has usually developed into a late-stage disease by the time it is diagnosed. TGen's research focuses on genetic and biochemical approaches to identify diagnostics and molecular targets for the development of new therapies for pancreatic cancer. Dr. Daniel Von Hoff, who leads the Clinical Translational Research Division at TGen, is world renowned for his contributions to pancreatic cancer research in addition to the development of new cancer drugs. Dr. Von Hoff and his team were instrumental in the development of one anti-cancer agent (gemcitabine) that significantly improves survival rates of patients with pancreatic cancer.
